About Us
The mission of the Akwesasne Seed Hub is to empower the Akwesasne Freedom School and our Mohawk community through a dedicated language and culture-oriented learning and production center where we cultivate knowledge of farming, harvesting, cooking, and food preservation by teaching sustainable practices and developing a deeper connection to our land, heritage and culture, for the generations to come. Akwesasne Seed Hub is located on 160+ acres of land adjacent to the longest-standing Mohawk immersion school, with a focus on cultivating both a local durable local food and seed hub, but also strengthening intertribal trade and kinship routes across the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.
Akwesasne Seed Hub (ASH) seeks to empower our Mohawk and wider Haudenosaunee communities to practice embodied self-determination through the reclamation of our traditional foodways and language. Focusing on scaling up traditional food and seeds to make them more widely available to our Mohawk community and engaging in strong language immersion and intergenerational mentorship ensures that we are making traditional healthy foods and seeds and the skills needed to cultivate them in our daily lives more widely available to the community. This allows for growing the next generation of land, food, and seed stewards who are fluent in our language and have a strong cultural cosmovision to birth a chapter of sustainable health for lands, people, and all our relations, which culminates in the dignified resurgence of a healthy, resilient and sovereign Mohawk Nation.

The Hub
The Akwesasne Seed Hub is a vibrant community resource that encompasses a variety of facilities designed to promote sustainability, health, and cultural preservation. The garden and greenhouse provide a rich source of locally grown produce, nurturing both the land and the community’s connection to traditional agricultural practices. In the industrial kitchen and prep space, fresh ingredients are transformed into nutritious meals, fostering culinary skills and healthy eating habits. The dining hall serves as a gathering place where people can share meals and strengthen communal bonds. The butcher shop ensures that meat processing is done with care and respect, while the wellness space offers a sanctuary for physical and mental well-being. Altogether, the Akwesasne Seed Hub is a testament to the power of community, self-reliance, and holistic living.
